ELLP Pathway – Foundation to Stage 3 and ELLP Pathway Student Agency Record released in final versions

English Language Learning Progressions (ELLP) Pathway.

The English Language Learning Progressions (ELLP) Pathway – Foundation to Stage 3 and ELLP Pathway Student Agency Record have been released in their final versions following a period in draft form.

We would like to thank all those who worked with the draft resource and submitted feedback for consideration.

The ELLP Pathway – Foundation to Stage 3 and ELLP Pathway Student Agency Record are optional, supplementary resources, designed to assist teachers to better understand the ELLP matrices and plan appropriate teaching for English language learners.

Schools can now use either the ELLP Pathway or the original ELLP matrices to record a student’s progress using highlighted indicators.  Previously, this could only be recorded on the ELLP matrices. An ELLP Pathway Record of Progress version of the document has been created for this purpose and is available in Word and Google doc format. The highlighted indicators inform the ‘achieved’ stages submitted on the status list for ESOL funding

Whichever document schools choose, it is essential it is used regularly for planning and teaching as well as recording student progress.

Schools are required to retain all the records relating to a student’s ESOL funding and assessments, including either the highlighted ELLP matrices, or ELLP Pathway. If an ESOL-funded student leaves your school, make sure all these records go with their file to their new school.

While the Pathway documents may be used for new secondary learners, they do not include Stage 4 and may not be suitable for more advanced learners.

The resources are available on TKI in Word and Google Doc formats: ELLP Pathway – Foundation to Stage 3 and ELLP Pathway Student Agency Record
