The English Language Intensive Programme (ELIP) Primary Resource is designed to support ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) programmes. It is not intended to be a whole programme in itself, but provides guidelines for teachers of ESOL programmes by selecting some text examples, language outcomes and language learning focus points at three phases of English language learning. It is also linked directly to the English Language Learning Progressions (ELLP) and to the DVD Making Language and Learning Work: Years 5-8 which was sent to schools at the end of 2008. It is intended to be used alongside the Supporting English Language Learners in Primary Schools (SELLIPS) which provides general guidelines on text types and forms, language structures and focus for English learning in primary mainstream and ESOL specialist classes. See Acknowledgements.
