The New Zealand Curriculum sections
This diagram shows how curriculum levels typically relate to years at school for students whose first language is English. Within every year group, however, new learners of English vary greatly in their English language competence. The diagrams on page 13 of The English Language Learning Progressions: Introduction show how the stages of the ESOL progressions for oral language, reading, and writing relate to the levels of the New Zealand Curriculum.
