Course planning: steps, model and template resources (Years 9-13) are now live on ESOL Online.
They can be accessed via the home page ('What do I need to know and do?'): Course planning (Years 9-13)
The course planning materials include detailed steps in course planning to meet the needs of English language learners in Years 9-13, with model course approaches and a planning template. This planner will provide the structure for teachers to customise their own courses.
The materials can be used in all ESOL course planning and link to the New Zealand Curriculum, ELLP and ELIP as well as the requirements for NZQA Course Approval and Accreditation for ESOL courses for international students.
Opportunities for multi-levelling show how teachers can plan for differentiated levels of support. The model course outlines are examples of how planning may be done for a particular group of English language learners and include the following range of ESOL levels and learning situations: Foundation ESOL, Junior ESOL Transition, Senior NCEA ESOL, EAP Literacy and Short term ESOL for International students
It is important that teachers create their own course based on the needs of their learners.
